IFCN Condemns Threats Against Indonesian Outlet Tempo

The International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) has issued a strong condemnation following a series of threatening incidents targeting Tempo, a respected Indonesian news outlet known for its independent journalism. Harassment began with the delivery of a severed pig’s head to the Jakarta office on March 19, followed by decapitated rats on March 22, and culminated in cyberattacks in April that disrupted access to its reports.

The threats coincided with inflammatory remarks from President Prabowo Subianto alleging foreign-funded media attempts to “divide” the nation. Protesters have also demanded punitive measures against Tempo. The IFCN, which Tempo has been affiliated with since 2018, urged Indonesian authorities to safeguard the rights and security of all journalists.
