The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has reiterated its demand for justice in the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh and 19 other journalists by Israeli forces, amid claims that a culture of impunity persists. Since the Israel-Gaza war began in October 2023, at least 174 Palestinian and Lebanese journalists have been killed without any criminal investigations.
Abu Akleh’s family and colleagues insist that justice must extend beyond naming individual perpetrators to include the entire command structure responsible for the ongoing lack of accountability. CPJ criticized both the U.S. and Israeli governments for stalling investigations and failing to protect journalists.
